Radon FAQ

What is radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that is naturally produced from the decay of other natural radioactive elements in the earth.

How does it get into my home?

Being a gas, radon rises to the surface on its own, and enters your home typically at the lowest level through cracks, holes, sump pump pits etc.

Why is it dangerous?

In addition to being radioactive itself, radon produces decay products. The decay products are solids which are produced in a chain starting when the radon decays. These are the primary concern, and decay inside one's lungs causing damage. This can cause cancer. Radon may be responsible for as many as 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the US.

How do you get rid of radon?

You are never completely rid of radon inside the home or even outside. However, you can reduce radon to acceptable low levels by installing a radon mitigation system in the home.

What is your radon license number?

The State of New Jersey actually offers certification not licensing for radon measurement technicians. Mine is

Radon Measurement Certification # MET13499
